I have been experimenting with different styles of faces for my fashion illustrations. I wanted to draw faces that would create a personality, which reflected a character and style of the illustration.
I was looking for illustrator that use alternative ways to draw and record things, other than on paper. I found textiles artist Alice Kettle's work. Alice Kettle creates stories within her work using lines of thread to describe relationships and define emotions. I think the tactile quality of her work means you have more of a connection to it.
Three free machine embroidered caricatures of my friends.
I was drawn to the tactile surfaces, and use of colour and line in artist Dasha Shishkin's work. Shishkin is a Moscow born artist, New York based painter and print maker. Her bizarre and controversial scenes are used to tap into the viewer's own thoughts, dreams and fantasies.
